| Biography | |
| Dr. Sheerin is a Lecturer in Intellectual Disability Nursing with extensive experience of nursing across a number of fields of practice. His PhD work brought together nursing informatics and intellectual disability nursing in an attempt to delineate the core interventional components of specialist intellectual disability nursing. He was Director of PG Teaching and Learning from 2007 to 2010 and significantly progressed graduate education in the School of Nursing and Midwifery. He is Vice-President of the Association for Common European Nursing Diagnoses, Interventions and Outcomes and runs its Secretariat. He has led the development of a national group focused on the human rights of persons with intellectual disabilities in Ireland, bringing together many local and national groups as well as many individuals with and without intellectual disabilities. Dr. Sheerin is actively involved in intellectual disability and equality-related research. Fintan is external examiner for the Advanced Diploma in Learning Disabilities and the Master in Learning Disabilities at University of Leeds, UK, and for the Bachelor in Science in Nursing in Intellectual Disability Nursing at Dundalk Institute of Technology, Ireland. He was Acting Director of the National Institute for Intellectual Disability from 2012-2013. | |

| Summary | This study is at proposal level and will involve an examination of the prevalence or mental health diagnoses and characteristics among populations of people with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities in six European countries -Ireland, Norway, Lithuania, Turkey, Malta and Portugal. It will also examine relationships between these prevalences and the characteristics of residential service provision in each setting. |
