| Dr Honor Nicholl is a lecturer within the School. She has previously held appointments as Head of Discipline(Children's Nursing),Acting Assistant Director,Founding Chair of the Children's Research Group,Course Coordinator and module leader. She has also led on curriculum developments in palliative care and child well-being.
Her Doctoral study was focussed on mothers' experiences of caring for children with complex needs in Ireland. Her current research activities are centered on clinical practice issues including mothers' experiences of caring for children with complex needs experiences. Current funded research activites are focused on parent information, the development and delivery of children's palliative care modules and equipment used by children with complex needs at home.Previous funded national studies include a study of maternity care provision in Ireland for women with disabilities. Research funding grants have been obtained from The National Disability Authority, The Irish Hospice Foundation, The McMenamin Scholarship award and the Eileen Mansfield Scholarship from the Adelaide Hospital Society as well as the AIIHPC and IHF. Her publications and conference presentations are related to children with complex needs, edcuation and palliative care.
Honor has a breadth of teaching and supervisory experience in undergraduate and post-graduate courses with specialist expertise in Children's nursing including children's palliative care. She has developed, coordinated and taught on all undergraduate,post-graduate specialist nursing and MSc programmes and supervises PhD students.
She is/has been involved in strategic developments in nurse education, including the Nurse Education Forum and The National Paediatric Advisory group. She is a current active member of numerous advisory and professional groups including the IAPC, EAPCC,CRNINI and The National Children's Hospital development group and is closely linked with a number of voluntary agencies.She is also a book and journal reviewer for numerous journals and publishers.
Honor has worked in clinical and management roles in national,and internationally recognised, centres of excellence in children's hospitals [in intensive care, cardiothoracic nursing, infant surgery and childrens' palliative care].
In 2012 Honor was awarded the IJPN award as Educator of the Year [Joint Firts place] for her work in palliative care. |
